The Hounds: The hounds are the heart of the hunt. Foxhounds are scent hounds, chasing with their noses, not their eyes. High Country's foxhounds are crossbred foxhounds, a mixture of English foxhounds and American foxhounds.
The Quarry: The Coyote is our quarry in the chase. Coyotes are astute, versatile, shrewd, mischievous, and very, very fast. They mate for life and are sometimes called prairie wolves.

The Master of Foxhounds: The Master is like the captain of a ship, having the overall responsibility for everything in the kennels and in the field.

The Huntsman: The Huntsman hunts the hounds. At the High Country, the Master and huntsman are the same person, but this may not always be the case at other Hunts.

The Whipper-In: When the hounds are hunted, the whippers-in or the "whips" help the huntsman control the hounds, stay on the lookout for quarry or hound hazards, and ride up near the huntsman and the hounds.

The Field Master: The Field Master is in charge of everyone following the hounds or the "field". The Field Master tries to ensure that everyone enjoys good sport, watching the hounds finding and working coyote scent lines, but at the same time, riding safely and not interfering with the work of the hounds. The First Field or the Fast Field will attempt to stay close to the hunting hounds, and may require galloping speed over rough ground. The Second Field will try to watch the hounds from a greater distance or "hill tops", so the are sometimes called Hilltoppers. Slower speeds and easier terrain are the hallmarks of the Second Field.
